Introduction:

A dark rocky path juts from a huge rock face across the lava pool. Its a nightmarish scenario, and theres only one direction to go... forwards. Upon entry to the huge mouth, you look back at the tongue of rock you have just crossed, and the lava swirling and lapping at its edges. This is no place for the faint hearted. Somewhere below in the bowels of the earth, a deep breath is taken, pulling you in and down... deeper and deeper into the darkness. A compass has been cut into the rock. The Hub will give a short sharp initiation to any new player. Violent, brutal and the entrance to the Keep. Its dark, eerie, full of weapons and the most hostile of environments. Its the perfect precursor of whats to follow.

Painkeep Arena consists of many new levels, weapons, powerups and is seriously imaginative. No other mod will come close. The darkness and torturous weapons would probably seem more suited to the Middle Ages whilst futuristic maps and weapons blend perfectly with the more gothic style maps in the collection. The mass destruction of the gravity well is increased, new skins give some weapons a sadistic appearance, others are sadistic enough as they stand. New powerups are hard to find yet fun to use, exceptionally deadly, but wont give anyone a win on their own. The balance of weapons is exceptional, you can find a good defense in most situations, often with a deadly effect on your attacker. Death by fecal plume poses the ultimate humiliation for the unaware.
